WHAT WE DO
What charities does KPE4 look to support?
KPE4's vision is “to increase the proportion of young people growing up in deprived areas to live fulfilling lives, with a positive impact on society.”
Currently, KPE4 directs around 55% of funding to 12-14"Core Charities". These are charities that have been chosen as they support young people growing up in and around Pilton & Muirhouse. KPE4 has, or aims to build, trusted long-term relationships with these core charities. A further 20% of funding is for use by schools in the area, either directly or indirectly (via recommendation), while 15% of funds are directed towards one-off projects and initiatives intended to improve the lives of young people growing up in the area.

Charities and organisations interested in funding may be able to access in one the following ways:
1. Selection as a core charity. Core charities are reviewed and selected every three years. The next review is scheduled for early 2028 and details will be added here when this process opens for new applications.
2. Joint collaborative approach with a core charity. We welcome applications for collaborative efforts between two or more charities that wish to work together in order to better meet the needs of young people in the area. Core charities can propose these collaborative approaches, which will then be reviewed by Trustees twice a year (April and October). Details of core charities will be added to this site once they have been announced (April 2025).
3. Apply for non-core charity funding. These are reviewed every 1-2 months. Is it unlikely that funding for more than £10,000 would be considered. Unfortunately, it is anticipated that only approx 1 in 10 applications will be successful due to demand.
4. School recommendation for funding. From April 2025 Craigroyston High School, Craigroyston Primary, Forthview Primary and Pirniehall Primary will each have influence over a School Recommendation Fund tied to their individual school. This fund will be administered and funds paid directly by KPE4, however the decision for which charities should receive funding will lie with the schools themselves. It is anticipated that schools will recommend charities that support their pupil population during the school day.
KPE4 is keen to support both charities that support a small number of individuals most in need, as well as those that reach large numbers (eg a whole school or class). The Trust is also keen to support all levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, with the highest proportion of funding targeted towards supporting a sense of Love & Belonging and building Esteem.
WHO WE WORK WITH
Which are the core charities and organisations that KPE4 supports?
Over the years KPE4 has built trusted relationships with a number of charities, schools and organisations that deliver valuable services and projects within the communities of Pilton and Muirhouse. These include Freshstart, Midnight & Beyond, Spartans and Stepping Stones.
Details of the chosen Core Charities for 2025 and beyond will follow soon (announced April 2025).
Do you only support charities that align to the umbrella aim and geography?
No, there is also a smaller pot available for donations to non-focus charities that the trustees would like to support.
How many charities does KPE4 support each year?
KPE4 now focuses donations on fewer charities allowing closer ties to be developed and a better understanding of challenges, as well as increasing trustee engagement. As such around 12-14 core charities are chosen each year with an aim to build close, (hoped for) long term relationships. There is no set number for non-focus charities.
FUNDING
When are funding decisions made?
The Trust works to the financial year and Trustees meet twice a year in April and October to review progress, assess any collaborative approaches and school recommendations for funding. Core charity decisions are reviewed every 3 years (next review April 2028) while non-core charity applications are reviewed every 4-8 weeks.
APPLY

The application form for non-core charities is here.
All other applications for funding are managed through the relevant school or core charity, as detailed above.
It is our intention to limit the administrative process to apply for funds so charities are encouraged to leave any questions that are too time consuming or difficult to answer. Any questions please contact kpe4@revlab.com
